The Commentary of Zuo is my favorite history book from a global view into dramatic primordial China with extensive details and chain-reacting events. People were fighting, arguing and asking some fundamental questions of human civilization. Some of the typical cases have remained in present Chinese proverbs.
On the other hand, many words in the Commentary of Zuo have survived in modern Chaoshan dialect in various forms. They are so common and different from mandarin that people can hardly realize their ancient origins, but are silently encoded in the words and expressions in the Commentary of Zuo and modern Chinese Chaoshan dialect, to be discovered.
